“Reading and thoughtfulness and openness are the best way, I should think, to begin to address the richness that is in each of us.”–Julia Alvarez
A quote from Julia Alvarez

By Kary Schumpert. Making sense of my place in the world by learning to be, live, run, write, knit, believe, teach, love.
That quote reminds me of a written statement postulated by founding father James Madison-“the increase and diffusion of knowledge dissolves fear and tyranny”. Thomas Jefferson wrote-“enlighten the people generally and tyranny and oppression of the body and mind will vanish like evil spirits at the dawn of day”. Knowledge can breed openness and thoughtfulness should it be employed in the affirmative direction.
Hmm, interesting idea. Ultimately, in my spiritual work, I keep coming back to the idea that we need to be open and peel away the things that we think we know.
