Clubs and Activities

In the 2022-2023 school year, Bay Shore Middle School will offer the following clubs and activities:

 

Anime Club Grades 6, 7, 8 (Wednesday, 2:30-3:30, Room 813)

Scholars will have an opportunity to create and draw anime characters.

 

Art Club Grades 6, 7, 8 (Wednesday, 2:30-3:30, Room 613)

Scholars will have the opportunity to work on various theme projects.

 

Cabaret Night Grades 6, 7, 8 (Various times throughout the spring) 

Scholars will learn the aspects of cabaret production ending with a show.

 

Chamber Orchestra Grades 6, 7, 8 (Tuesday, 2:30-3:30)

Scholars will learn music from all genres including Jazz, Classical and Contemporary/Pop.

 

Drama/Backstage Club (Various times from September-February)

Scholars will learn the aspects of theater production that ends with a full, 3-night production.

 

Dance (Hip Hop) Grades, 6, 7, 8 (Wednesday, 2:30-3:30, Large Cafe) 

Scholars will learn the basics of hip hop and enjoy a physical workout.  Dancers will participate in the Bay Shore Dances performance held at Bay Shore High School in May.

 

Debate Club Grades, 6, 7, 8 (Monday, 2:30-3:30, Room 822/911) 

Scholars will work together to masterfully apply the use of valuable skills such as collaboration, public speaking, research analysis and citation of supportive evidence to win exciting debate arguments and counterarguments.

 

Homework Club Grades, 6, 7, 8 (Monday-Thursday, 2:30-3:30) 

Scholars will receive homework assistance from certified teachers.

 

Intramurals - Grade 6 (Monday and Friday, 2:30-3:30)

Scholars will play a variety of sports both inside and outside.  Sneakers are required.

 

Jazz Choir - Grade 7 & 8 (Tuesday, Thursday, 2:30-3:30, Choir Room)

Scholars will sing selections from Jazz, Broadway and Pop music.  By audition only.

 

Jazz Band - Grade 7 & 8 (Wednesday, 2:30-3:30, Band Room)

Scholars will play selections from Jazz, Rock, Latin, and Rhythm and Blues.

 

Mock Trial - Grades 6, 7, & 8 (Friday, 2:30-3:30, Comp. Lab)

 

Peer Buddies/Ace Program - Grades 6, 7, & 8 (Various locations dependent on the activity and number of students, Room 510)

General Education scholars will foster friendships with scholars with disabilities during lunch, study hall and after school.  Sign up in Guidance.

 

Pit Orchestra (Drama) - Grades 6, 7, & 8 (Late Sept.- February) (Wednesday, 2:30-3:30, Room 520)

Scholars will learn the aspects of theater and music in a production.

 

National Junior Honor Society - Grades 7 & 8 (Thursday, 2:30-3:30, Little Theater)

Scholars are selected based on their academics, character, leadership and service in the spring of their 7th grade year.

 

Tri-M Music Honor Society - Grades 6, 7, & 8  (Monthly on Monday, 2:30-3:30, Choir Room)

Scholars are selected based on their musical talent, academics, character, leadership and service.

 

Newspaper Club - Grades 6, 7, & 8 (Tuesday, 2:30-3:30, Room 700)

Scholars will write articles for the school newspaper.

 

Robotics Club - Grades 6, 7, & 8 (Thursday, 2:30-3:30, Room 536)

Scholars will design, build and test a robot to compete in competition.

 

Science Olympiad - Grades 6, 7, & 8 (Various locations dependent on the science activity and number of students from 2:30 – 3:30)

Scholars will meet with science coaches to prepare for events pertaining to various scientific disciplines including earth science, biology, chemistry, physics and engineering.

 

Student Council - 6 (Wednesday 2x Month, 2:30-3:30)

Scholars will meet to discuss school activities and spirit.

 

Student Council - 7 (Wednesday bi-weekly, 2:30-3:30)

Scholars will meet to discuss school activities and spirit.

 

Student Council - 8 (Wednesday bi-weekly, 2:30-3:30)

Scholars will meet to discuss school activities and spirit.

 

Toy Making Club (Monday - Grades 7 & 8, 2:30-3:30, Wednesday - Grades 6, 2:30-3:30)

Scholars will build toys that are donated to underprivileged children.

 

Yearbook Club - Grades 6, 7, & 8  (1st Monday of the month, 2:30-3:30, 616)

Scholars will learn all aspects of composing a yearbook.
