Tumbling/Gymnastics

TUMBLING/GYMNASTICS OBJECTIVES:

Psychomotor:

The students will be able to:

  • Perform basic Tumbling skills:

-           Rolls (forwards, backward, straddle, drag, dive)

-           Balancing skills (tripod, headstand, handstand)

-           Using weight transfer (cartwheels, roundoffs, walkovers)

-           Bridges, backbend, walkovers

-           Handsprings (8th grade only)

  • Perform basic gymnastics skills using a proper mount and dismount:

-           Beam (locomotor and tumbling skills at different levels)

-           Rings (straight arm support and basic tumbling skills in the various positions)

-           Parallel Bars (front arm support, forward/backward/straddle walks, forward  rolls, front arm support into a swing)

-           Uneven Bars (Front support, forward/backward hip circles, half/full pirouette, pase hip circles, undershoot)

  •  Demonstrate and implement proper spotting technique

Cognitive:

The students will be able to:

  • Identify the health related components of fitness needed to perform gymnastics

  • Identify the four gymnastics positions:

-       Straight/Stretch (set position)

-       Tuck

-       Straddle

-       Pike

  • List all the basic tumbling and gymnastics skills

  • Can identify male and female events for gymnastics

Affective:

The students will:

  • Care for each other’s safety (spotting)
  • Show sensitivity towards students of varying abilities
  • Demonstrate teamwork through cooperative activities
  • Demonstrate accountability for responsibilities to their peers
  • Respect differences in physical abilities
