A delayed opening is subject to change if the weather and/or road conditions remain hazardous. The Superintendent retains the option to close the schools when the potential for a hazardous situation exists.

If the Superintendent determines that a condition exists that warrants a two-hour delayed opening, due to hazardous road conditions and/or inclement weather reports, parents, faculty, and staff will be notified via automated phone notification system, the 91制片厂 website (), ParentSquare, and local news channels (News12, WABC). The decision to close or delay the opening of school will be made by 5:00 a.m. or earlier.

Bus Pick-up Times: A two-hour delayed school opening means bus schedules will also be delayed two hours. For example, if your child’s bus is normally scheduled to arrive at your bus stop at 6:30 a.m., a two-hour delay will change it to 8:30 a.m. Please have your child at the bus stop at least ten (10) minutes early.

Private and Parochial Schools: School closing listings should be consulted to determine if your school is open. If your school is open, you will need to add two hours to your normal pick-up time for that day.

What is a delayed school opening?

A delayed school opening is one in which the regular starting time for a school is changed because of weather-related problems. For example, the High School day normally starts at 7:20 a.m. In a two-hour delay, the High School day would begin at 9:20 a.m.

Why is it necessary to have a delayed school opening?

A delayed school opening allows the Town of Islip additional time to plow and sand roads, and provides the school district time to plow parking lots and clear sidewalks to ensure a safe trip to school for students and staff. The decision to close or delay school is based upon many factors, including road conditions, snow and ice accumulations, weather forecasts, availability of bus transportation, and conditions of the school buildings and grounds.

Over the past few years there has been a distinctive change in weather patterns on Long Island. As the weather changes, we must also be prepared to change. The delayed opening is an option for coping with the changes in weather patterns.

Would all Bay Shore private, parochial, and public school students be subject to the delayed opening, regardless of the school attended?

Yes.

If a delayed opening were necessary, would dismissal times be the same?

If there is a two-hour delayed opening, what time can I expect my child to be picked up?

If your child goes to the High School and his/her regular pick-up time is 6:30 a.m. the delayed pick-up would be two hours later, which is 8:30 a.m. For all bus pick-ups, add two hours to your child’s regular pick-up time. Please have your child at the bus stop at least ten (10) minutes early.

If there is a two-hour delayed opening, will there be any before school activities such as AIS classes or performance group practices?

No. In the event of a two-hour delayed opening, there will not be any before school activities held in any building.
